This course is an introduction to programming JavaScript on the server in node.js. It assumes participants have previous experience with JavaScript. Topics covered include running node.js, the node module system and package manager, asynchronous I/O, writing an HTTP server, talking to a database, and building robust services.

Target Group:
People with a basic proficiency in JavaScript programming.

Content:
JavaScript, a language that was designed in a few weeks time in 1995, as part of the Netscape browser, has reached widespread adoption as a way to embed programs in web pages. Though initially envisioned for tiny scripts, it has held up surprisingly well in the era of large, complex web applications, and even found adoption beyond the browser. This course teaches the node.js platform. Participants will come away with the skills needed to use it to write simple web servers, proxies, and other network tools.
